RiseUp for Gratitude Sunday! – Nov. 24, 2024

by | Nov 19, 2024 | Pastor Letters

As we journey together in faith and purpose, I am filled with gratitude as I reflect on the progress and mission of our “RiseUp” Campaign. This initiative is dedicated to retiring the mortgage from the 2012-2014 expansion and renovation of our church campus—a significant project that has enriched our fellowship and ministry in countless ways.

The vision that led us to this expansion was rooted in our commitment to foster deeper connections within our community and provide a welcoming, accessible environment for all. Before this project, our three primary buildings were linked only by breezeways, requiring members and visitors to step outside to move between Sunday School, worship services, the children’s building, and the Family Life Center. This presented challenges, particularly in inclement weather, and underscored the need for a cohesive, integrated campus.

Our expansion project was transformative. It brought our buildings together, creating a unified space that promotes fellowship and ease of access. This renovation included the addition of six large much-needed restrooms, two versatile multi-purpose rooms, an elevator for increased accessibility, and a new office suite that supports our administrative needs. The Commons Area, now a bustling hub of connection and conversation, has become a cherished space where friendships are nurtured and new relationships blossom. The porte-cochere entrance provides a convenient, covered area for pick-up and drop-off, making our campus more welcoming to everyone.

The project also enhanced our capacity for ministry through renovated Sunday School classrooms and a beautiful courtyard that has become a focal point for festivals, concerts, and recreation for all ages. The expanded parking has improved accessibility for our congregation, while upgrades to our sound and media capabilities, including remote blinds for special performances and services, have elevated our worship experience.

This ambitious expansion was completed at an approximate cost of $3.6 million. Thanks to the generosity of our congregation during the “It’s Time” Campaign, we were able to raise over half of these funds. In July 2015, the remainder of the construction loan was rolled into a mortgage of about $1.5 million, with a balloon payment due in July 2025. I am pleased to share that, through dedicated giving and the unwavering support of our community, our current mortgage balance is now below $900,000. Our goal is to be debt-free within the next three years!

The RiseUp Campaign represents more than just financial responsibility; it symbolizes our collective commitment to stewardship, unity, and faith in God’s provision. By reaching this goal, we will free up resources for future ministry opportunities, community outreach, and spiritual growth initiatives. We will also be giving a wonderful legacy to the next generation – a debt free church that can focus its resources on ministry rather than debt retirement.

I am confident that together, with continued prayer, generous hearts, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will achieve this milestone!  Come this Sunday, November 24th, as the RiseUp Team shares an update now that we have made our pledges and gifts on Commitment Sunday on November 17th

Thank you for being part of this journey “for such a time as this.” (Esther 4:14) Your support, dedication, and faith inspire us to RiseUp and continue building the legacy of Huguenot Road Baptist Church for generations to come.

In Christ’s care,
