Serve

There are so many ways to be involved at HRBC!

Serving at HRBC

Serving at Huguenot Road Baptist Church is centered around our vision of 5 God Sized Dreams of Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship, Outreach, and Missions.

Start by taking this Spiritual Gifts Inventory, which will give you a starting point. Then you can peruse the opportunities under each pillar below.

Deacons

“Loving, understanding, and empathizing with the community…and the world” encompasses what seeing through the eyes of Jesus means.  This happens to be our North Star statement gleaned from our new vision journey.  It means seeing everyone as a valued person who should be loved and respected for unique talents, gifts, wants and needs.  Jesus overlooked no one.  Therefore, if we are to see as Jesus did, then we must ‘see’ everyone in our community and beyond – not only the most popular, the most successful, the most attractive, but everyone, regardless of visuals, accomplishments and/or social status.

At Huguenot Road Baptist Church, deacons embody “loving, understanding, and empathizing with the community” by serving the members of the congregation through several ministry teams:

Teams

  • Bereavement
  • Compassionate Hosts (at funerals held at HRBC)
  • Family
  • Hospital and Prayer (temporarily combined)
  • New Member

Every deacon serves on the family ministry team and then chooses at least one other team with which to become involved.  The family ministry team entails each deacon being assigned a group of family units (comprised of one or more people) so that every congregant has an assigned deacon.  No one is overlooked – every congregant has an assigned deacon.  Deacons are tasked with regularly contacting their assigned families through assorted methods, including personal conversations, phone calls, cards, emails, text messages, etc.  Over time, as deacons minister to their families through all of their joys and sorrows, relationships between deacons and their families will grow.   Moreover, the other deacon ministry teams were created to serve our congregants during times of their lives when they need support and love, when they are the most vulnerable.

Therefore, the overall goal of the deacons is to serve our congregants as Jesus served those around him – “to see through the eyes of Jesus” – with love, understanding, and empathy.
