Letters from the Pastor

Living with Eternity in Mind

by | Nov 4, 2025 | Pastor Letters

Every so often, a phrase lodges itself deep in your spirit. For me this week, it’s this one: “Live as if each day were the first day of the rest of your eternal life.”

I’ve often heard the advice to “live each day as if it were your last.” Tim McGraw captured that sentiment in his hit song, “Live Like You Were Dying.” It’s a stirring call to make every day count. But as I prepared Sunday’s message, a different picture began to form in my heart—one shaped by Kenny Chesney’s song “Don’t Blink” and a beautiful insight from Dallas Willard in his book, The Divine Conspiracy

Chesney’s song tells the story of a 102-year-old man who said, “Don’t blink.” In other words, life moves faster than you think—so stay awake, stay grateful, stay present. Yet Willard takes us even deeper. He wrote, “Jesus shows his apprentices how to live in light of the fact that we will never stop living.” That’s not just a poetic idea—it’s a radical reorientation of life. It’s a Divine Conspiracy

If we are never-ceasing spiritual beings with an eternal destiny in the full world of God, then each day is not the end of something fleeting but the beginning of something everlasting. Life in Christ doesn’t start when we die—it begins the moment we follow Him.

Last week, as I walked our dog, Toby, early one morning, I tried to see things through that eternal lens—the sunrise, the sound of the wind, birds chirping, the chill in the air. Everything seemed more vivid, more alive. When we live with eternity in mind, even the ordinary becomes sacred—think Moses and the burning bush that would not extinguish (Exodus 3).

In last Sunday’s message, “Live Full Out,” we heard Jesus’ call to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mark 12:28–34). That’s what it means to live each day as if it were the first of our eternal life—fully awake to God’s presence, fully engaged in love, fully devoted to what lasts forever.

So, this week, don’t blink.

  • Live full out.
  • Love deeply.
  • Worship wholeheartedly.
  • Serve gladly.

Because in Christ, this isn’t the last chapter—it’s just the beginning!

Blessings,
