Four years ago, we watched Isabella walk across the stage at the Siegel Center in Richmond and receive her high school diploma. That August, we took her to James Madison University and moved her into Hansen Hall—her home away from home. That morning, I remember standing in Chick-fil-A, tears in my eyes, trying to hold it together as I told the Westchester team it was “move-in day” for Isabella at JMU.
Now it’s May 2026 and here we are—full circle. Isabella is graduating on May 14 from JMU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Media Arts and Design and a minor in Educational Media. We are so proud of her. Even more, we are thankful to God for the young woman she has become.

JMU has truly been home to Isabella these four years. When she moved into Hansen on August 19, 2022, volunteers from InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IV) helped carry her belongings up to her dorm room. These students, called FROGS (First yeaR Orientation Guides,) made an immediate impact. Some were even former youth from HRBC, and Isabella quickly connected with others through IV—connections we had heard about from friends here in Midlothian.
InterVarsity became family for Isabella and helped her navigate what it means to follow Christ on a college campus. She joined a small group, attended large group gatherings on Friday nights, and was discipled by an upperclassman. Over time, she served on IV’s Executive Council and Communications Team, participated in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, and helped lead the IV podcast. She also had the joy of discipling younger students. Through IV, she found her “people”—friends for life.

During her senior year, she has lived with five other girls in an IV house called “Treasure Chest,” which has been one of the highlights of her JMU experience. Not only has she formed lifelong friendships, but she also met Hayden through IV. They are now engaged and plan to be married in April 2027.
Melanie and I are deeply grateful to God for all of this. JMU has provided a supportive and safe environment for Isabella during this season. InterVarsity has helped her grow and mature in her faith. And we are especially thankful for our church family here at HRBC—those who have prayed, sent care packages, written notes, and encouraged her along the way. You have loved her as your own, and we could not have done this without you.
Moments like these remind us that none of us walks alone. God, in His goodness, places people in our lives to guide us, support us, and help us grow—often bringing us full circle in ways we could never have imagined.
In Christ’s care and with thanksgiving,
