Over the past few weeks, I’ve been prayerfully preparing sermon plans for the summer months, and I’m excited to share what’s ahead! This season’s messages will offer insight, encouragement—and even a little humor. We’ll journey through three distinct sermon series that explore how God meets us in our missteps (June), how we can share our faith with authenticity (July), and how each of us is uniquely gifted to serve in God’s kingdom (August). July and August’s themes also reflect key goals that emerged from this spring’s Executive Council retreat.
Whether you’re at home, traveling, or worshiping online, I encourage you to stay engaged this summer as we grow together in faith. Here’s a look at what’s coming in worship this June, July, and August:
June Series – “Holy Misadventures: When Life Doesn’t Go as Planned.” God meets us with grace and wisdom in the middle of our detours, disasters, and human foolishness.
- June 15 – “Dad, You Gave My Blessing to the Wrong Kid!”
Genesis 27:1–40 – Jacob conspires to get Isaac’s blessing. Even in dysfunctional families and bad decisions, God’s purposes can prevail.
- June 22 – “When the Donkey Makes More Sense Than You”
Numbers 22:21–35 – Balaam’s donkey sees the angel of the Lord before he does. Sometimes God uses the absurd and unexpected to get our attention and redirect our path.
- June 29 – “Don’t Fall Out the Window!”
Acts 20:7–12 – Eutychus falls asleep and out of a window during Paul’s sermon.
Even when we’re tired or distracted, God’s grace revives and restores.
July Series – “Can I Get a Witness?” Sharing our faith stories with authenticity and courage.
- July 6 – “You Will Be My Witnesses”
Acts 1:6–11 – Before His ascension, Jesus empowers His disciples to be effective witnesses. Jesus commissions ordinary people with an extraordinary calling: to be His witnesses.
- July 13 – “Go Home and Tell”
Mark 5:1–20 – A healed man is sent to testify about what Jesus has done for him. The most powerful testimony may simply be what God has done for you.
- July 20 – Guest Preacher (TBA) I’ll be away for continuing education course work in the Art of Leadership Academy.
- July 27 – “Always Be Ready”
1 Peter 3:13–17 – Peter calls believers to respond to questions about their hope with gentleness. Be prepared to share your hope with gentleness and respect—it matters.
August Series – “Gifted and Called” Discovering and using our spiritual gifts to serve with joy and purpose.
- August 3 – Guest Preacher (TBA) I’ll be on family vacation this Sunday.
- August 10 – “One Body, Many Gifts”
1 Corinthians 12:1–11 – Paul describes how spiritual gifts build up the church.
No gift is too small—each part of the body matters and belongs.
- August 17 – “You Are God’s Workmanship”
Ephesians 2:8–10 – Paul reminds us that we are created in Christ for good works. God designed you on purpose and for a purpose—discover it!
- August 24 – “Use What You’ve Been Given”
Matthew 25:14–30 – A parable where servants are entrusted with talents to manage. What we do with what we’ve received reveals what we believe about the Giver.
- August 31 – “Here I Am, Send Me”
Isaiah 6:1–8 – Isaiah responds to God’s call after a powerful vision in the temple.
God still calls today. Are we available to say yes?
