Letters from the Pastor

Autumn in the Wings

by | Sep 22, 2026 | Pastor Letters

Pastor David Cameron has written this week’s letter. We hope you are blessed by his thoughts this week.

“I can smell autumn dancing in the breeze. The sweet chill of pumpkin, and crisp sunburnt leaves.” – Ann Drake

Autumn is on the way. Even as we roast in the summer sun that seems determined not to let up, there are hints and teases from my favorite season of crisp days, dazzling leaves, and harvests gathered in.

In theatre, the “wings” are places just off stage, out of view of the audience, but only a step or two from the lights.  They are a place of eager anticipation, nerves, excitement, energy and focus as players wait for their cues to take the stage.

As summer grudgingly comes to an end, I always imagine Autumn poised, in the wings, anticipating its moment to take center stage.  I know many of us look forward to fall and all the season brings.

I find that I have that feeling for what God is doing and about to do here at HRBC, an eager anticipation of good things in the wings, if you will.  I hope you do as well.

In Isaiah 43:19 God tells us, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

God is at work. Are we watching to see where we can be part? Psalm 130:5 says, “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His word I put my Hope.” May this be our attitude as well.

Autumn is in the wings, and God is doing new things! Welcome to new seasons and new life!

Peace in Christ.

David Cameron
