Pastor David Cameron has written this week’s letter. We hope you are blessed by his thoughts this week.
I’ve found that phrase running through my mind rather often of late… generally, with a bit of a wistful, dreamy tone to the words and a haze of serene calm softly shimmering in the background.
In October we began our move to Richmond after twenty-four years in Martinsville. It has been wonderful, exciting, invigorating, exhausting, nerve-racking, pleasant, chaotic, worrying, hopeful, much longer than expected, and still not QUITE finished. All these things, and more.

It has NOT been normal. I can say that with confidence.
Then again, if I had to describe in detail exactly what “normal” is I’m not sure I could do it. I have some ideas of what I think I’d LIKE normal to be, and other thoughts about what I think normal should NEVER be like, but as for actual, honest reporting of all the events included in an “average” day…
Back in the 80’s I had a collection of pins with pithy little sayings on them that I wore stuck on my denim jacket. One of my favorites read: “Normal’s just a setting on the Washing Machine”.
I thought it was funny then, but now I think there’s a bit of truth to it. Life is many things: wonderful, joyful, fun, exciting, sad, frightening, painful, worrying, all the highs and lows we can go through in an ever-changing mix from day to day, but it isn’t “Normal” … unless maybe that is what “Normal” truly is.
Life is always changing around us. These days that seems very evident, and it’s natural to crave a more normal… normal. But regardless of what changes life brings, we know, serve, and are known and LOVED by a God who goes with us in and through all things. That’s good news BEYOND normal. 2 Corinthians 6:2 reminds us: “…now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.”
Peace and Blessings,
David

Thanks Pastor David! I needed this reminder, because almost daily I feel besieged by both external and internal stressors. I never miss a day offering the Serenity Prayer to help me remember there are many things I cannot change, but I offer that prayer every day as a good reminder But you and Paul reminded me that now (ANY NOW) God is always with me!
