HRBC is reaching out to the community through Ovation! Chorus. On December 7th and 8th, HRBC was host to the annual Christmas concerts presented by Ovation! Chorus. We are delighted that Ovation! calls HRBC its home and we look forward to the years to come. This ministry is part of HRBC Vision 2022 and emerged as God began to work through several key relationships and connections.
In case you aren’t familiar with Ovation!, this chorus was established in January of 2022 by fourteen interested singing enthusiasts who met eagerly with imaginative minds and deep, compassionate hearts to create a music ministry focused on the 55-and-older seniors of this community. Conducting its first rehearsal in the sanctuary on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, (now 80 members strong) this Chorus continues their outreach spirit to the senior adult community under the leadership of Paul Honaker, the Artistic Director, with this Mission Statement:
To encourage the growth and development of our God-given musical talents and to inspire the love of music in our community.
The purpose of Ovation! Is to reach out to senior adults and their families through music and compassionate outreach. For example, the concert on Dec. 7th was held in the afternoon. This enabled 27 senior- living communities and nursing/rehabilitation centers to bring their residents to our church for the concert. This is a well-oiled machine! For example, when a bus from one of the communities arrives, volunteers help them offload their passengers and ensure they are seated in the sanctuary in a designated space. If someone has a wheelchair or walker, these implements are tagged with ID so that they are properly matched with the proper guest upon departure. This, in addition to parking and other logistics, enables many people to attend the concert who may not otherwise be able to participate in such a marvelous event!
There are far too many people to name, but Vickie Felts, co-leader of the HRBC Outreach Group, as well as many volunteers from the Outreach Team, Primetimer’s Ministry, Music Ministry, and others, teamed up to make this a successful event! I don’t have a head count, but the sanctuary was packed on Thursday afternoon and Friday night’s concert to the general public was also near capacity. In addition, WTVR News Channel 6 was here for the Thursday concert and did a nice story: Ovation on News 6
In addition to the Christmas concerts, Ovation! also presents an annual spring concert and they lead in worship several times a year on Sunday mornings here at HRBC.
