Worship at Huguenot Road Baptist Church
The goal of worship is to “glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” Worship at HRBC involves the recognition of God’s worth and includes offering God honor, praise, and adoration. The focus of worship is on God, with an emphasis on the relationship of participants, individually and collectively, with God. During our times of worship, we confess our need for Christ, express worship to God with our hearts and lips, receive instruction from the scriptures, give our material possessions to God, and celebrate the ordinances of the Lord’s Supper and believer’s baptism. In all of these things, we worship together, with an openness to the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
One way HRBC gives praise to God is through music. The music ministry at HRBC offers all ages and all skills a place to make a joyful noise to the Lord. The following are areas in which you can participate:
The Awakening Band
This ensemble leads the Awakening 8:30 am contemporary worship service in the Family Life Center. The band is ever changing but is primarily made up of singers, and accompanied by piano, horns, drums, percussion, guitar and bass. Audition is required for this ensemble. Auditions can take place anytime during the year. To inquire about an audition, contact Phillip Brown, Associate Pastor for Worship and Music.
Rehearsal is on Sundays from 6:15 – 7:30 pm September – May (adjusted schedule in the summer)
Chancel Choir – Adult
This ensemble leads our 11:00 am Traditional Worship service in the sanctuary. The choir is made up of singers 18 years old and up. In addition to leading our congregation in hymn singing, the Chancel Choir offers an anthem each Sunday. The choir is also the backbone for special services and seasonal programs. No audition is required.

Christmas and Easter Choir – Adult
This ensemble joins with the Chancel Choir to lead in seasonal worship services and to learn and present special music programs. This choir is open to everyone age 18 and up. Occasionally this special choir will join forces with the orchestra and younger age-graded choirs. This choir is volunteer and requires no auditions.
Rehearsal is on Wednesday’s beginning at 7:30 pm seasonally – childcare provided
Gospel Road – Adult
This ensemble specializes in bluegrass/country southern gospel music. No audition required. This group features singers, guitars, bass, tambourine and washboard (to name a few).
Rehearsal is on Wednesdays from 6:45 – 7:30 pm, September – May
HRBC Festival Orchestra – Intergenerational
This ensemble is a mentoring ensemble. Seasoned players in each section engage younger/newer players in mentoring conversation during rehearsal. That way, learning is taking place on many levels. This ensemble ebbs and flows through time as musicians come and go. We require at least one year of supervised study on your instrument. The orchestra is scheduled to play for worship five to eight times per season with the addition of the four services of Advent, seasonal services and special programs such as the annual Christmas program. This ensemble has toured, done “Symfastic!” concerts for preschoolers and even played for a wedding. No audition required.
Rehearsal is on Sunday’s 3:30 – 5:00 pm, September – May
King’s Kids – Grade School Children Kindergarten – 5th grade
This ensemble leads in worship five to eight times per year and participates in seasonal programs and presents a musical in May. In this choir we learn about musical concepts and theory, meaning of sung texts, and worship leadership. Our rehearsal is an action-packed 45 minutes of music and fun!
Rehearsal is on Wednesday’s from 6:15 – 7:00 pm, September – May
King’s Kids Jr. – Preschool Children age 2 – Pre Kindergarten
This is ensemble is designed more for the experience of learning about God through music, rather than presentation of music in worship or concert venue. These are our little ones who sing “sitting” on the floor usually with a guitar accompaniment.
“Rehearsal” is on Wednesday’s from 6:30 – 7:30 pm intermingled with other activities
United Praise – Middle and High School Students
This ensemble is for 6th-12th grade students and an adult section leader in each of the SATB sections. Our music is 90% acapella and most of it is written and arranged for this choir. United Praise sings for worship five to eight times per season, plus seasonal and special programs. They annually sing and serve for the homeless in the Caritas ministry. This group has toured extensively up and down the east coast from New York City to Orlando, Florida, from Myrtle Beach, SC to Louisville, KY. We have sung acapella concerts in great cathedrals to front yards; from State Capitol buildings to prisons; in every imaginable mode of transportation and nook and cranny on land; for individuals on a sidewalk to great crowds at the National Christmas Tree. We tour, go to a festival or camp or mission on odd (ex. 2019) calendar year summers.
Rehearsal is on Sunday’s from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, September – May
