Monthly/Semi-Monthly Opportunities
Emergency Shelter Site
Our church facility is designated by CCHASM (Chesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry) and the American Red Cross as an emergency shelter site in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. We will put our network of communication through Bible Study classes, small groups, and internet resources to work should it become necessary to respond. We can respond in a variety of ways ....... provide food, water, toiletries, blankets or shelter.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Imagine being wrapped in a handmade shawl that was bathed in prayer as it was made. Those who have received this blessing include ones moving away from Richmond, new friends we make while on mission, individuals dealing with grief or in crisis and some of our very own family who aren't able to leave there homes and worship with us on a regular basis. The smiles and tears shared when a prayer shawl is given away is a blessing beyond imagination.
Join with beginner or experienced crochet-ers and knitters as they make these precious gifts.

First Sunday Food Offering
On the first Sunday of every month, HRBC collects food for the Oregon Hill Baptist Center and other ministry partners. We collect non-perishable foods to help our partners feed the needy of Richmond. It's easy to provide at least one item each month. Make it a family project! Let the kids pick one item out of the pantry each month. It's like shopping without even leaving the house. Speaking of shopping ...... Take a family adventure to the grocery! Let the kids help fill one bag of groceries to bring for the First Sunday Food Offering.
If you want to take the next step in helping feed the hungry, select a month and deliver the food to Oregon Hill. On the first Monday or Tuesday of the month, the food gets sorted and delivered. We have learned that children make the best canned food sorters! Sorting and delivering the food provides families with a way to be on mission together. This is an excellent opportunity to talk with your children about those less fortunate, and about our call to share Christ's love in tangible ways.
Sign up soon! There are only 12 opportunities each year, and spots fill quickly.
Mondays at Morningside
Every Monday at 10am, HRBC provides a devotion and community interaction with the residents in the Alzheimer’s unit at Morningside.
It's a special treat for the residents when your children, youth or college students participate in Mondays at Morningside. Be sure to get them involved during summer or winter break, and they're not in school. We must warn you there could be one down-side to getting your kids involved ----- they may ask to skip school to participate on a regular basis!
Of course, adults are welcome any Monday!
Annual Opportunities
Camp Alkulana Work Weekend (Spring)
Richmond Baptists support Camp Alkulana to provide a summer wilderness experience for inner-city children who would not otherwise be able to go to a camp. In addition to the regular summer activities, we have assisted in preparing camp during the spring months and clean-up in anticipation of winter.
CARITAS Shelter (Spring)
The HRBC gym becomes home for one week to some of the homeless people in Richmond. There are many needs to be filled during the week. They include: meal preparation, overnight hosts, laundry, shower escorts, entertainment and friendly faces. Come out and spend some time with our guests. Their stories, talents and personalities will bless you beyond your wildest imagination.
