Discipleship
We offer a number of opportunities for discipleship specifically geared towards aging adults. Click here for a list of our Sunday morning Bible study opportunities. In addition to these Sunday morning offerings, we also have a regular Monday evening potluck and Bible study opportunity called "Agape." For more information regarding this group, please contact the church office (272-2072). On Wednesday nights and Thursday mornings, we have a number of small group opportunities for further growth. Click here to see a list of these opportunities. Once a year, we strive to provide an opportunity for a retreat. Please see our "news" section to see when the next experience will be.
Service
HRBC strives to be an Acts 1:8 community faithfully serving our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and Ends of the Earth. Through discipleship, we grow deeper in our faith and are equipped to serve the world around us. While HRBC mature adults are a part of the varied Acts 1:8 ministries of the larger church body, here are a few ministries specifically designed for aging adults:
- One on one mentoring with students at Reams Road Elementary School.
- Quarterly trips to Oregon Hill Baptist Center to eat dinner with the residents and share a program with them.
- Sunday morning Bible studies at Morningside Assisted Living Facility.
- Monday morning Bible studies with the Gardens at Morningside.
- Regular hymn sing-a-longs with the residents at Morningside.
- Quarterly communion service at Morningside.
- Active weekly visitation and spiritual guidance to over 12 area health care facilities and homebound residents through our "Sonshine Ministry".
Aside from these ministries, many of our seniors are actively serving our community in other informal ways.
Fellowship
Fellowship is a vibrant part of any 55+ ministry. Through fellowship, we continue to shape and form community that is strengthened and empowered to serve the world. The following are examples of some of our social events designed to build community:
- An annual summer picnic
- An annual fall “kickoff” dinner
- An annual fall weekend trip
- An annual Christmas dinner with seasonal entertainment
- An annual Valentine’s Day luncheon
- Periodic visits to the Riverside Dinner Theater in Fredericksburg, VA
- Periodic visits to the Lee Playhouse at Ft. Lee
- Periodically welcoming musical groups.
Education
Older adults face varied challenges that accompany the aging process. As part of our holistic ministry approach, we provide opportunities for speakers to come and address issues most relevant to the 55+ community. Once a quarter we host a "lunch and learn" on various topics of interest and concern for older adults.
We also recognize the vast amount of community resources available to seasoned adults and have provided a link below that lists a number of helpful resources for the aging journey. Click here for a list of resources for Mature Adults.
If you would like to be a part of an active, vibrant 55+ adult community seeking to serve God, HRBC has a place for you! Please contact our Associate Pastor for Senior Adults, Melissa Fallen, for more information.
