November 2010 Hyaets Mission

November 2010 Hyaets Mission

Eight HRBC individuals served 3 days in Charlotte with our Hyaets mission partners November 4-6. The task list included things like the following:

  • Sewing a curtain for the clubhouse shower.

  • Cleaning the clubhouse.

  • Making reindeer crafts.

  • Taking a neighborhood group to see Godspell.

  • Finishing grout work in the Parkway house shower.

  • Setting up the computer.

  • Preparing meals to freeze and to serve later for Wed. night devotions.

  • Installing shelving in the main Tuck house bathroom.

  • Defrosting the freezers.

  • Preparing a bus stop breakfast for the neighborhood children.

  • Assessing electrical needs at a neighbor's house.

  • Helping with household chores like laundry and dish washing.

  • Playing with the Hyaets' babies!

While this is a list of tasks the team participated in, it doesn't fully describe the intangible things that happened. We shared a lot of rich conversation with our ministry partners. We talked about the challenges they face in the neighborhood with some real life examples we encountered. We listened in to their visions for the future and helped brainstorm some too. We also spent time doing homework with neighborhood kids and sharing community meal together. Many of the children's names and faces are now familiar to us which helps us pick up where we left off the last time we were there.
