The Clinic is probably one of the biggest events that HRBC hosts every year. The intent behind the Clinic, however, is that it not be a one day event but a transformative experience for both our volunteers and guests. Each year, the Judea team evaluates the Clinic – what went really well and what can we improve? All this with an eye to change all our hearts to look a little more like Jesus’.
While there are many parts to the clinic that do not change from year to year, we do try to implement new ways to both provide services to those in need while developing a relationship with our guests. We have learned that having too many people may feel good to us initially but in the long run results in no time for good conversations between advocates and our guests. Therefore, we are trying to offer more, yet smaller, clinics where relationships can be formed while also meeting the needs of those around us.
We will need everyone’s help to make this successful. There is literally a job for everyone no matter what your physical limitations might be. Of course, the largest need at all of the Clinics is being an advocate. The title may sound intimidating but to be honest, it is the best job there is. An advocate takes assists a family in making appointments with services and then shows them around to the various services. Advocates listen, laugh, eat lunch and pray with their guests. The relationship formed can be life changing for both the advocate and the family. The HRBC Clinic this year is on September 16 from 10:00 am until 2:00. We have also set the date for the Clinic at Oregon Hill Baptist Center for October 26th. Please save both of these dates!
With any new change, flexibility is always needed. If you have been involved, tell someone about it and see if they will join in this year. If you have never been to one of the Clinics, sign up – let Matthew or Laura Wert know what you would like to do or are able to do. We will find something that will fit your gifts.
