As in years past, parents and children will be counting on our Baptist Centers to find the things they need for Christmas. And it is up to the River City Faith Network (Richmond Baptist Association) partners to provide these items. HRBC has always played a big role in this ministry, and this year should be no different as we collect toys and clothing throughout November for the under-resourced in Richmond. November 29 is the last day to donate.
Gifts are needed for children, from birth through age 12; shortages have been reported for ages 7 - 10. When purchasing gifts, choose items that you would want your own children or grandchildren to receive. Go easy on stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, and basic board games. Please leave price tags in place and do not wrap gifts so that items can be categorized by value.
How does the Christmas store work? Each family is charged a small amount—$5.00 for each child – entitling the parent(s) to select toys and several pieces of clothing. All donations are placed in a neighborhood fuel assistance fund for the winter months. Our stores are a ministry to the whole person where relationships are of utmost importance. Parents retain their dignity as they carefully select gifts for which they have “paid” a price.
The Baptist Centers love their Christmas store volunteers! To volunteer to sort and set up the stores on Nov. 30 – Dec. 2 or to help during the store hours on December 3-4, email Dotty Shepard.
