2014 Winter and Spring Discipleship Opportunities

Small Group Studies @ HRBC

Creating learning groups that connect, grow, and transform through study, trusting relationships, and service so that God’s Kingdom is proclaimed!  HRBC’s small group team is pleased to offer numerous groups engaging in a    variety of studies at different times and places throughout the week! 

Study Options are listed in chronological order.

 

Winter Bible Study:  Wednesday, January 8, 15, and 22 @ 6:00 pm  FLC

Richmond, VA boasts three accredited and respected seminaries.  Each year, we invite a seminary professor to engage us in his or her area of expertise.  This year, Dr. Scott Spencer, Professor of New Testament and Preaching at Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond will be our featured lecturer.  Dr. Spencer has served at BTSR since 2002 and is the author of six books, including, What Did Jesus Do? Gospel Profiles in Jesus’ Personal       Conduct, which will be the focus of this study. 

 

January 9 - Thursday Morning Women’s Spiritual Conversation and Men’s Bible Study 

Join one of these groups for challenging study of God’s word as well as fellowship and encouragement.  Spiritual Conversations meet in room 301; Men in the Sanctuary parlor.  Both groups begin at 9:45 am.

 

January 29 - May  21:  Wednesday Evening Men’s Bible Study and Mom Time Resume

These groups offer a great place to go deeper in your relationship with God while building important relationships with others walking the path of discipleship.  Encouragement, friendship, and thoughtful study are to expected!  Mom Time meets in room 406 and the Men meet in the Sanctuary Parlor.

 

January 29 - February 26:  Walk in the Dust of the Rabbi Room 407

Join this five week study as we engage in an archeological tour of Israel and Turkey to explore what it meant for Jesus’ first followers to be disciples.  Understanding the challenges, sacrifices, and joys of following Christ in the first century helps us in the 21st century understand what it means to be a disciple.  This is a video based study with group discussion.

 

March 5 - Ash Wednesday  6:30 pm        Church Sanctuary

Each year, the church breaks from its normal Wednesday activities to observe a moving and interactive Ash Wednesday service.  Ash Wednesday serves as the gateway to the Lenten season - one of the important seasons of the church year.  The whole family is invited!

 

March 12 - May 14:  God Saves a People Room 407

Want to learn more about the major themes in the Bible?  Want to revisit and think critically on major Biblical themes?  Join this group for an eight week journey that includes God’s saving grace from the Exodus, the wanderings, and the Kingdom’s rise and fall, on to God’s new act of salvation through Jesus, into the early church.  Follow the sweep of the story and marvel at the acts of God yet today!

 

March 12 - May 12:  The Prodigal God - Women’s Study Room 409

Join other women in reading and discussing Tim Keller’s book, The Prodigal God.  In this eight week study,       uncover the essential message of Jesus, locked inside his most familiar parable.  Within that parable, Jesus reveals God’s prodigal grace toward both the irreligious and the moralistic.
