Advent Devotion

Thinking about Love at this time of year, brings floods of Christmas memories; some from years back, but most are more recent.  (Guess my memory isn’t what it once was!)  I do, however, recall the year when John’s Christmas gift to me was an engagement ring and a proposal of marriage.  It was the best gift ever!  I was so excited thinking about marrying this young fellow.

Now, just having celebrated our thirty-third wedding anniversary, my marriage to John is even more a gift, including the family with which we are blessed.  Each one is a gift and a blessing from God.

Still over the years I have learned that the greatest gift, the best gift ever, is the gift of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.   As the song goes, “Love came down at Christmas”.   Christ was born as a baby; there was such joy and excitement.  The Bible tells that he lived his life loving and leading others, and he is our example of how we are to live our lives.   We read in John 13:34-35, “A new command I have to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another.  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. “

At Christmas it’s fun to give gifts as an expression of our love in celebration of the gift of Christ.  I pray that my expressions of Christ’s love to others continue each and every day.
