Joy to the World, the Lord has come!
As we celebrate the advent season and prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ, let us remember that God gives us a joy that cannot be conquered. We can choose to pursue the joy of Christ or we can live filled with resentment, anger, and fear. We need to face each day joyfully and full of hope. Whether it is bringing comfort to a tearful baby at church or having an excited little one toddle toward you as you walk into the room, the pure joy in these interactions are profound for me. Likewise, every occasion spent with my precious grandson is special and brings joy to my heart.
What is it that brings you true joy? Perhaps just sitting with a loved one beneath the starry night or taking a meal to one in need or reading your Bible early in the morning before anyone else is up. What can you do to bring joy to others? Write a note of encouragement to someone or have your family members make a list of things that bring them joy and share during a meal together or simply pause during the day and thank the Lord for giving you the opportunity to be joyful.
Luke 2:10-11 tells us that the angel said “... I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Let us choose to share the joy of Christmas with each other!
