Advent Devotion

"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”      Hebrews 10: 22-23

Clean water is essential for life.  In one particular village, it was clean water that brought a community to church.

A newly established church in rural SE Asia requested a community-sized clean water filtration system be installed on the front lawn of their church.  They wanted to be a blessing to a community that was uncertain and fearful of their presence. They wanted to share their hope and faith in Christ with their community.

Rural Asia Initiative, along with the local National Christian Foundation we partner with, worked with the church leaders to construct a community-sized clean water filtration system in their small front lawn.  Then, the community was invited to use the clean water filter with no strings attached.  The community members were astounded by this generous act.  This needed and cherished water was freely provided to the community, they noticed, and they were grateful.

This church recognized a need in the community and boldly and unselfishly provided it.  The consequence was an openness and trust that had not existed before.

Our hope in Christ gives each of us the boldness and courage to step out in faith and to give selflessly of ourselves just as the members of this small church community in SE Asia.  In the face of uncertainty and fear, remember the example of our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who were able to dismantle this barrier through the free gift of water.

Let’s rejoice because our hope is rooted in the Lord who is always faithful!
